About The Department of Management Studies

After pioneering in Engineering and Science education for over three decades, NIT Silchar has today distinguished itself from its peers by way of not only producing the brightest minds but also the future business leaders.

The Department of Management Studies came into existence on 21st August, 2012. The Department runs in a separate building with Smart-Classrooms, Full-Fledged Library, Computer Labs, Seminar Halls and above all a team of dedicated Faculty. The performances of the students are monitored regularly. The student has regular interactions with personalities from various Industries/ Academia and also undergoes frequent Industrial visits. The Department excelled with 100% placement for 2014 and 2015 batch. The Department have its Annual Festival ‘PAARBON’, which aimed to provide a forum for budding managers of future to conceptualize and implement their ideas along with interaction and deliberations with fellow students were the core objectives of the Festival. More over there is a Departmental Magazine “UDAAN” in which the students express their innovative ideas, views and creative thought. Here, at NIT Silchar, we not only strive for academic excellence but also pay equal importance to the holistic development of the students so that they excel in all spheres of professional life.

To impart quality knowledge and modern skills through innovation and continuous development of the competencies and transforming the budding youngsters into leaders of the corporate world and creating knowledge pool through frontier research.


Programme Education Objectives

Department of Management Studies runs Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme. Following are the objective of the programme:

Program Objective - I
MBA students will establish themselves as effective professionals by solving real time problems through the use of management knowledge and with attention to team work, effective communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Program Objective - II
MBA students will develop professional skills that make them ready for employment and for life-long learning in advanced areas of management and related fields.
Program Objective - III
MBA students will be provided with an educational foundation that prepares them for excellent leadership roles along diverse career paths with encouragement to follow professional ethics and active participation needed for a successful career.

Programme Outcomes

  1. Students graduating from the MBA program are academically and professionally prepared for a managerial career.
  2. Apply conceptual business foundations to solve practical decision-making problems, both individually and as part of teams using techniques such as case analysis, projects and assignments.
  3. An ability to develop a systematic understanding of globalization and its impact on people, businesses and the economy.
  4. An ability to analyze a problem, identify, formulate and use the appropriate managerial skills for obtaining its solution.
  5. Recognize and address ethical issues and values and apply them in organizational settings.
  6. An ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally (Speaking / Writing skills).
  7. The MBA program faculty demonstrates teaching effectiveness.
  8. The MBA program faculty use appropriate pedagogical techniques in the classroom.
  9. The MBA program faculty actively participate in a wide range of professional and scholarly activities.

Admission Procedure


The Department shall carry a three step process to admit students into MBA programme:
Step 1: Screening of applications on the basis of academic performance and performance of the student in the entrance exam (CAT/MAT/CMAT),
Step 2: Performance in Group Discussion,
Step 3: Performance in Personal Interview.

Applicants satisfying minimum eligibility criteria will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview. If the number of applicants are found reasonably high, Department may set an elimination stage after Group Discussion. In all other cases, final selection will be based on academic career and score of prescribed Entrance Examination, performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
