INAE-2013
The project 'Solar Powered Wheelchair' was awarded the Innovative Student Projects Award 2013 (Bachelor's Level) by the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The prize money was Rs. 10,000. The award was presented to Rohit Thakwani (ME' 2013) by Dr. Baldev Raj, President, INAE on 13th Dec 2013.
The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) founded in 1987 comprises India's most distinguished engineers, engineer-scientists and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines, and functions as an apex body to promote and advance the practice of engineering and technology and the related sciences and disciplines in India and their application to problems of national importance. INAE, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, represents India at the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS).
The Academy instituted the above scheme of Awards and is implementing it since 1998, to identify innovative and creative research projects undertaken by the students and scholars in the engineering institutions, and to give an early recognition and incentives to them. The Academy firmly believes that an early recognition of merit and talent is important which can mark the beginning of a brilliant career. Potentially innovative projects/theses are assessed at three levels, viz., B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech and Ph.D in all disciplines. Students in the last year of their undergraduate studies are only eligible to apply. The shortlisted nominees are invited to make a twenty minutes presentation of their work before a Steering Committee of the INAE Council which includes top scientists and academicians from the country. The awards are delivered during the Annual Convention of the Indian National Academy of Engineering in the month of December.
