EUREC-2013
Three students of NIT Silchar, Rohit Thakwani (ME' 2013; Former Secretary, SESI NITS Chapter), Rajarshi Choudhury (EE' 2014) and Shubham Jain (ECE' 2014) were awarded the Best Undergraduate Students' Project on Renewable Energy 2013 (3rd Prize Worldwide) by the European Renewable Energy research Centres (EUREC) Association for their project on 'Solar Powered Wheelchair'. The prize money was 1500 Euros. The award was presented to Rohit Thakwani by Nathalie Richet, Manager, EURECat their headquarters in Belgium on 14th October 2013.
EUREC was founded in 1991 as European Economic Interest Grouping (E.E.I.G.) with the goal of improving the quality and scope of European research and development in renewable energy technologies. The purpose of the association is to promote and support the development of innovative technologies and human resources to enable a prompt transition to a sustainable energy system. EUREC members include 44 research centers and 10 universities of Europe.
EUREC delivers three awards to the best undergraduate students' projects on Renewable Energy. The aim of these prestigious awards is to promote excellence in the study of Renewable Energy, to reward talent and to encourage Renewable Energy debate worldwide. EUREC stimulates interest in research in Renewable Energy and encourage young students to pursue a career in the field. Students, of any nationality, in the last year of their undergraduate studies or in the year immediately following graduation are eligible to apply. The applications are peer reviewed by researchers and professors of the EUREC member organizations. The three winners are contacted during the summer (in the month of August) and the Awards are presented on the Starting Day of the EUREC Master Programme in October in Brussels.
